A Millcreek educator made a run all the way to the finals for Pennsylvania’s 2025 Teacher of the Year.
Rob Hodgson, a teacher at McDowell High School, was nominated for the prestigious award, which was awarded Monday by Pennsylvania’s acting secretary of education.

The award for Educator of the Year was awarded to Leon Smith, who works at Haverford High School in Delaware County.
Although our local nominee did not win the award this year, the recipient is a passionate educator committed to making a lasting impact on Pennsylvania’s youth.

“I just feel so honored, I feel emotional because it’s just been such a long journey but I love education and I’m excited that I have an opportunity to advocate for the students of Pennsylvania,” Smith said.
Hodgson and Smith were among only 12 candidates to make the final round.
