PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An act of kindness in Pittsfield to honor the Air Force staff sergeant killed in an Osprey aircraft crash, by paying off his family’s mortgage.
The kind deed was initiated as a part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s annual Season of Hope Campaign. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, the foundation is providing 40 families with a mortgage-free home.

In November 2023, 24-year-old Air Force Staff Sergeant Jacob “Jake” Galliher , a Pittsfield native, was one of eight crew members killed when an Osprey aircraft he was in went down off the coast of Japan.
SSgt. Galliher was a 2017 graduate of Taconic High School in Pittsfield and a beloved member of the community. He leaves behind his wife, Ivy, two boys, and his family members in Lanesborough.
“Jacob was an incredible son, brother, husband, father, and friend to so many. His short life touched and made better the lives of hundreds, if not thousands in Pittsfield, in this region and everywhere he served,” said the Galliher family at the time of his death.
