Nohe Weir-Villatoro knew from the start that his business idea would be an uphill push. His dream shop – La Boardega – with its plan to provide a sort of hangout for skateboarding enthusiasts, as well as lovers of high-quality, grab-and-go food, was tough to place into a specific category. Nevertheless, knowing La Boardega was there provided Mebane’s downtown with a different vibe, and elevated Clay Street’s “cool” factor.
