Headlined by the Thunderbirds, Toledo Air Show to return after hiatus

Headlined by the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team, the Toledo Air Show will return to the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport on Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 and 11.

The event has not been held since 2019, partly because of the pandemic and partly because of the length of time required to book a top-flight event such as the Thunderbirds.

“That became a challenge for us to secure an act that will attract visitors and draw crowds,” Thomas Winston, president and CEO of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, said during a news conference Tuesday. “We thought it was not in the best interest of the community to have a show unless we could secure a major act. And we’re fortunate that this opportunity has now presented itself.”

Col. Curtis Voltz, deputy wing commander of the Toledo-based 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard, said the event would be a great opportunity for the community to come out and experience the enthusiasm of aviation.
