North Florida landscapers transition to hanging Christmas lights in off-season

There’s nothing quite like driving through a neighborhood filled with colorful holiday lights . Whether it’s a show at the zoo or Deck the Chairs at Jacksonville Beach , lights seem to be a big part of getting into the Christmas spirit.

A survey of 3,000 homeowners from Today’s Homeowner showed about 70% of Americans said they planned to display outdoor holiday decorations.

The survey also reported 40% of Americans who decorate for the holidays hang their decorations after Thanksgiving but before Dec. 1. Of those decorating, 44% will take down their decorations in the first week of January.

In some areas, lights start going up in the last week of September, said Tom Snogles, owner at Jacksonville-based Twinkle Nights and landscaping business Sun Power Lawn Care in Gainesville.

“We do some Halloween stuff then but also try to get a jump on the season,” he said. “We try to get all of our clients done early so we can create space for new clients in November and December.”

Twinkle Nights serves customers as far north as Jekyll Island, south through The Villages and everything in between, but their highest concentration of service takes place in Jacksonville .
