It’s been 2 years since 3 children died in Greensboro fire on Grimsley Street

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Dec. 12, 2024, is a tough day for the Greensboro community. It marks two years since a fire on Grimsley Street claimed the lives of three children under the age of five.

Investigators say their mother left them home alone when the fire broke out. Brandi Sturdivant has been charged with their murders, but there has been little movement in court.

Also untouched is their old home on Grimsley Street. The windows are boarded up, the memorial out front has faded into a pile of faded toys, and the house stands as a constant reminder of the three young lives lost and the investigations that followed.

The street is silent, but the absence of anything at this home speaks louder than words. It’s a stark contrast to the massive scene two years ago.

A four-year-old and one-year-old twins died from carbon monoxide poisoning when they were trapped inside this home during the fire.

Sturdivant is charged with child abuse and second-degree murder. Since the investigation is ongoing, officials cannot speak with FOX8 about the case. The district attorney’s office shared a few reasons why a case like this takes years to get through the court system, including evaluation and analysis of evidence, and the public defenders are stretched thin.
