NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – This might be the most joyful time of year, but sometimes pesky porch pirates can mess with the holiday spirit. A mother signed her daughter up for the postal service’s Operation Santa Program to get Christmas presents. Later, she discovered that someone had stolen all those gifts.
Crystal Baker is a single working mother. She told WAVY she wanted to make this holiday exceptional for her daughter.
“We had a few struggling Christmases. So this one, I want it to be kind of special for her. And just to get that package was a blessing and to come home and it’d be gone. It’s like, Where do I start now,” said Crystal Baker.
She had her daughter write a wishlist.
“She wanted some gifts for her and her two dogs, and she submitted the letter to the Operation Santa program, sent it in, and we got adopted,” said Baker.
Baker said when she saw them delivered through her Ring doorbell camera, it felt like a weight off her shoulders. When she got home from work, though, they were not there.
