Folks living by the Midland Plaza area or over by Pearson Park may have seen a black male Lab sniffing around looking for food the past few months.
The dog, who has been dubbed Downtown Dash, has been at large for about eight weeks, and Sue Burda with the Humane Society of East Tennessee is hoping to catch him.
Partnering with a professional trapping company, they have laid out traps, hoping Dash will be enticed by the smell of hot food. They have been setting out high-value food, like hot dogs and beef, hoping Dash will follow his nose into the trap.
Dash has been spotted at Midland Plaza, Pearson Spring Park, Sandy Springs Park, Oxford Hills and Windridge.
Volunteers and trappers have spent countless hours getting Dash acclimated to their presence. According to Burda, they sometimes stay overnight at the trap location, sleeping in their cars.
While Dash may be skittish, he is slowly learning to trust. He has even played with and eaten out of the hands of volunteers but bolts at any surprising movement.
