Cost to clean up 6 feet of snow costing Harborcreek Twp. more than anticipated

Winter hasn’t even officially started and Harborcreek is already well over budget for snow removal.

Six feet of snow has been dumped on Harborcreek since Black Friday. In response, the township has spent $100,000 more than projected for cleanup.

That’s according to Supervisor Dean Pepicello. Pepicello said their $6.5 million total budget is airtight so any deviation is concerning.

He said if the rest of the winter brings high amounts of snow, they may have to dip into savings or put other projects on hold to make up the difference.

“It’s not only sand and salt and those things, it’s fuel. It’s parts that you deal with on trucks that break down because they’re going 24/7. It is the overtime that we all have to pay. All of these things make a massive impact on the budget,” he said.

Pepicello called the recent storm the most impactful he’s seen in 20 years.
