Boy charged in fatal shooting of 13-year-old in Minneapolis

A 14-year-old boy has been charged in the fatal shooting of a boy in a Minneapolis home in November.

Quadir Deangelo Blackwell, 13, died from a gunshot wound to the head at a home on the 2400 block of Ferrant Place in the early hours of Nov. 5.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office confirmed to Bring Me The News on Saturday that a 14-year-old has now been charged via juvenile petition in connection with Blackwell’s death.

Because he has been charged in juvenile court, the boy is not identified at this time.

The incident was initially described as an “accidental shooting” by police, with early information suggesting the 14-year-old boy was handling a gun when Blackwell was shot.

There were two women and other children in the home at the time of the shooting, but no one else was injured.

MPD said they were familiar with the boys involved and that the 14-year-old boy was on the scene when officers arrived.

“The death of a child is always incredibly troubling and tragic,” MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said at the ti,e. “Our investigators will work diligently to answer the many questions we have. In addition to supporting the families that are impacted by this tragedy, everyone must make every effort to ensure that every gun is securely stored.”
