Opinion/Guest column: Proposed Farm Bill poses threat to Mass. farmers

At Chockalog Farm, a family-operated farm since 1965, we go beyond organic and sustainable practices by embracing regenerative agriculture as well. This means that we always strive to leave the land better than we found it. The core motivation behind our approach is simple: We want to achieve the best possible outcomes when it comes to the interests of our customers, animals and our land.

Sadly, our foundational commitment to holistic and regenerative agriculture is now in jeopardy because of dangerous language in the proposed House Farm Bill. We could not be more distressed to see a threat of this nature gaining support in Congress, but it’s not too late for us to stop it dead.

The current version of the House Farm Bill includes provisions designed to overturn state-approved agricultural laws, like Massachusetts’ Question 3 , undermining local control over farming practices. This is an attempt by special interests to alter the landscape in a Trojan horse gambit, using buzzwords like “food freedom” and “farmer protection.”
