The Margaret Hunt Senior Center is the latest facility to move into South Toledo’s Southland Shopping Plaza, which has seen a few new developments.
Lynda Lisk, the director at the senior center, said the business moved into Southland about three months ago after its building at 2121 Garden Lake Dr. was sold. Toledo City Council will vote on Wednesday on a special-use permit to operate the center.
The center is temporarily operating at 1339 S. Byrne Rd. while it waits for a new center to be built. The new Margaret Hunt Senior Center will also be located on Garden Lake Drive and is expected to open at the end of 2026.
“Everyone is really enjoying the new facility,” Ms. Lisk said of the Southland location. “It was a good move.”
Ms. Lisk said the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, which funds the Margaret Hunt Senior Center, looked at several locations before choosing the Southland plaza. Ms. Lisk said the Southland location was the closest to its former site.
The senior center provides fitness classes, meals, shopping trips, workshops, and more to adults who are 55 and older.
