Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign short on collection, volunteers

The Salvation Army’s local Red Kettle campaign is in the home stretch and still seeks Stark County’s generosity.

The Alliance, Canton and Massillon chapters said the collection is 50% short of the campaign’s $370,000 goal by Dec. 24, and more volunteer bell-ringers are needed to reach the Christmas Eve mark.

Capt. Brennen Hinzman, commanding officer for the Massillon Salvation Army, said volunteers are “essential” to the campaign, and people interested in being a bell-ringer can sign up at RegistertoRing.com .

“We love our local Stark County communities and hope that they will support our Red Kettles in the final days of our campaign so that we can continue to support our friends and neighbors in need all year long,” Hinzman said.

The Salvation Army operates food panties, provides rent and utility assistance, offers life skills programs for adults and children, distributes school supplies and has many other programs for families or individuals experiencing hard times.

“The need has never been greater in Alliance,” said Major Tara Harrison of the Alliance Salvation Army. “We are seeing more requests for support this Christmas season than we have seen in past years.”
