How much snow is going to fall this week in Minnesota?
Well, a couple of inches could strike southern parts of the state on Tuesday , but a more potent clipper system will bring a chance for more significant snowfall on Thursday.
It’s that second round that could be toying with the Twin Cities, perhaps bringing the heaviest snows into the metro or simply flirting with the area but dropping higher amounts of snow further north.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday’s system should bring “at least” an inch of snow to the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, though there could be a swath of heavier snow reaching totals of 3-5 inches.
“Currently, guidance generally favors this 3-5″ swath near and north of I-94,” say forecasters at the Chanhassen office of the National Weather Service. “However, we will have to see if any shifts occur within future forecasts. It is almost certain that this Clipper will occur, it’s just the certainty lessens for ‘where.'”
