Gwinnett police say they have fixed missing child alert glitch

It really was the Gwinnett County Police Department sending messages on December 12 about a missing child.

A Gwinnett reverse 911 from police that went out as a voice message residents on December 12 about a missing child was not a scam. But, it appeared to be as multiple messages sent out at the same time are often labeled as such by phone carriers.

Police say they have corrected a glitch that sent the message to residents not in the area of the missing child, who was found and is okay, police say adding their number (770-513-5799) to your contacts is a good idea for Gwinnett County residents.

Police add that they can’t do anything when phone carriers translate their audio messages, sometimes incorrectly.
