In RI, labor power and climate action go hand-in-hand Opinion

No matter what any politician says, offshore wind isn’t going anywhere. Climate change is still hitting workers hard, our energy demand is still rising, and our need for high-quality union jobs in communities hit by decades of deindustrialization is more acute than ever.

In Rhode Island, labor power and climate action go hand-in-hand. It is in no small part thanks to organized labor that Rhode Island has cemented its role as a nationwide leader on clean energy. We built the country’s first offshore wind project, Block Island Wind. We worked with climate activists to pass legislation at the state and local level to help create more union jobs on clean energy projects. And now, we are working with our neighbors in Massachusetts and Connecticut to get our elected officials to take bigger and bolder action on offshore wind − Southern New England’s single best answer for climate change and the pollution, heat waves and extreme weather that are borne of it.
