Movie depicting a gritty side of Portland named to the National Film Registry

In the 1991 movie, “My Own Private Idaho,” the late River Phoenix played Mike, a narcoleptic street hustler turning tricks in Portland, trying to make enough money to get by. Keanu Reeves co-starred as Scott, Mike’s friend, who also turned tricks, but who did so not out of financial desperation but as an act of rebellion against his father, the mayor of Portland.
