The man who died Monday night after being shot at a North Toledo gas station worked at the business, police said.
Around 7 p.m. crews were at the S&G at 5424 Telegraph Rd. investigating a past offense menacing call when they asked the clerk, John Upshaw, 38, if they could review the station’s video footage of the incident.
Mr. Upshaw went to the back office to retrieve the footage. The officers, who were waiting at the front counter, then heard a single gunshot and found Mr. Upshaw in the back room with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mr. Upshaw died at the scene.
