Martin signs with Louisburg College

WALNUT COVE — South Stokes senior Olivia Martin signed her letter-of-intent to play softball at Louisburg College after considering a handful of schools including Salem and Greensboro Colleges.

“I’m happy, a little nervous, there are a bunch of feelings going on, but most really happy,” said Martin. “During the process I was really nervous, but glad it’s done because I didn’t know how it was going to go. They were very welcoming and if felt like home, like South. I liked the facilities, and the dorms were bigger than the other schools I visited. I think it will be a good home for me.”

Martin has played varsity for the last two season and started at second base during her junior campaign. She had an on base percentage of .317 with 17 RBIs, 14 runs scored, hit six doubles, a triple, stole four bases, and helped the Sauras to a 9-5 Northwest 1A Conference record and to a state playoff appearance.

“Olivia has been the ultimate team player for us,” said coach Rick McHone. “She has done everything I have asked her to do. She is probably the most improved kid in the whole program. She has really worked hard in getting better and I’m really proud of what she had done for herself personally, but also what she had done in her sport. Louisburg is excited about getting her, and she will fit in really good with them.”
