When someone sent me a picture of egg prices at a grocery store in Washington, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I remember when it was possible to buy a carton of eggs at the store for 99 cents; however, because of a bird flu crisis and inflation that never ends, those days are gone forever. It’s common now to pay $5, $6, $7 or even $8 dollars for one egg carton.
As a matter of fact, it likely will not be long before we see eggs at $10 a carton. In the past, eggs were an inexpensive way to feed the family; however, now prices are insane.
It is not only egg prices that are increasing, unfortunately.
We just saw the biggest monthly jump in food prices in nearly 2 years, according to CNN.
Back in November, prices of eggs spiked by 8.2 percent around the nation, making one of the greatest monthly increases in the last 20 years, according to data from the Consumer Price Index that was recently released. And it isn’t just eggs — consumers have seen spikes in non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, and beef, driving up overall food prices to their biggest monthly gain since the month of January in 2023.
