Man admits to wire fraud in West Virginia real estate scheme

MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Chukwuemeka Okorocha, 34, of Jersey City, New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with a real estate transaction in Hampshire County.

Court documents and statements revealed that Okorocha, also known as “Mecca,” participated in a scheme involving the impersonation of a realtor.

Working with an accomplice, he sent a fraudulent email to a closing agent that included a fake payoff statement, directing $332,904.37 to a bank account he controlled.

Before the fraud was uncovered, Okorocha and another individual spent $29,440.58 of the funds.

As part of his plea agreement, Okorocha agreed to pay $29,440.58 in restitution.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas prosecuting the case.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.
