Walmart employees in Texas are wearing body cameras in new pilot program. Here’s why

Walmart is giving select employees body cameras to wear in the stores.

In a statement, Walmart confirmed some employees are taking part in a body camera pilot program.

“While we don’t talk about the specifics of our security measures, we are always looking at new and innovative technology used across the retail industry,” Walmart said in a statement to USA TODAY. “This is a pilot we are testing in one market, and we will evaluate the results before making any longer-term decisions.”

What do the cameras look like?

About a month ago, a photo was posted on Reddit from a Walmart store in Denton showing body cameras in their charging bays. The photo included a poster with instructions on how to use the camera to record an escalating interaction with a customer.
