18-year-old involved in carjacking and wounding of Dallas cop sentenced to 30 years in prison

One of the men behind last year’s carjacking and wounding of an undercover Dallas Police officer is going away for decades.

Dallas County Judge Hector Garza has sentenced 18-year-old Red t ravion Polk to 30 years in prison. Polk was one of three Louisiana men who police say drove from Shreveport to Dallas to commit a carjacking. Their target happened to be an undercover cop in an unmarked car parked near Bachman Lake.

The officer was wounded in a gunfight and the men ditched the police car after realizing what they had done. Dallas Police Association President Jaime Castro says people are getting fed up with attacks on cops. “Enough is enough. I think the public understands now they are realizing that we are the ones that are coming into this, who are running into fire when shots are being fired.”

One man is in Dallas County jail awaiting trial. The third is locked up in a Louisiana Prison and will be brought back to Dallas County when that sentence is done.
