The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the North Carolina Center for Safer Schools have announced the beginning of a very important relationship to makeall North Carolina schools the safest in the nation.
This new collaboration comes as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 382 on December 11, 2024.
CFSS Executive Director Karen W. Fairley will continue to lead this new division of the SBI. The CFSS promotes a safer learning environment for all North Carolina K-12 schools and charter schools. The Center is a hub of information and provides technical assistance on school safety to school personnel, law enforcement, youth-serving community agencies, juvenile justice officials, policymakers, parents/guardians, and students.
CFSS staff focus on school climate, emergency preparedness and response, threat assessment and intervention, anonymous reporting, and data reporting, policy and compliance concerns for North Carolina’s K-12 schools. Staff are available to provide training, guidance, and technical assistance upon request for school personnel and those working with children and adolescents.
