The National Weather Service has issued a ‘high wind warning’ for a large part of Colorado, including portions of the Denver metro area.
The National Weather Service alert activates at 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening and extends until 6 a.m. on Thursday morning, including eastern slopes of the Front Range Mountains and foothills. Consistent wind speeds between 35 and 50 miles per hour are expected, with some gusts capable of reaching up to 80 miles per hour.
The area where the warning is active includes Estes Park, Evergreen, Breckenridge, and Red Feather Lakes, as well as a large swath of mountains that lies in this general area. Two other areas included in this warning are the western edge of the Denver metro and the area just west of Boulder.
Hazards associated with this wind may include flying objects and difficultly for drivers, especially for high-profile vehicles. Those in impacted regions should make sure outdoor objects are secure or placed inside.
