Booker T. Washington Center dishes out hundreds of holiday meals for families in need

There was a line out the door of the Booker T. Washington Center in the City of Erie on Wednesday morning.

Hundreds of area residents arrived in need of food for a holiday meal.

Elementary school students sing Christmas carols, hand out gifts to nursing home residents

Thanks to funding from the city, the center distributed 500 turkeys and hams with all the trimmings to brighten the celebrations of local families.

This time of year can be especially difficult for those who are struggling financially, and the center has seen an increase in need since the pandemic.

Erie High students use their shop lessons to make Christmas presents for local kids

“I think people have been struggling since COVID so we just really had to step up to do the best we can to help out families,” said Timothy Cook, Program Director, Booker T. Washington Center

“Christmas is getting close and people need some food. So I’m glad they’re having all that for them for Christmas,” said Mr. Santana, meal recipient.
