The Marine Corps. Toys for Tots program made a very special delivery on Wednesday to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
The outpatient center in Erie provides specialized medical care for children in the region. Those children work with therapists to help rehab from surgeries and regain mobility. Toys are a big part of their recovery, helping to relieve anxiety and bring them comfort.

According to a Shriners child life specialist, the toys delivered Wednesday will be distributed to patients all year long, whether they’re having a procedure or celebrating a special occasion.
“There’s been many times we’ve had children come in and they’re crying and very anxious because they’re coming to a doctor’s office. We bring a toy in a frown turns to a smile and they get super excited and they love playing,” said Michelle Derooy, certified child life specialist.
