Norfolk, VA – Affordable and quality housing remains a cornerstone for renters in today’s challenging market. The Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority (NRHA), the largest of its kind in Virginia, is committed to making these aspirations attainable for everyone. Through innovation and collaboration, the NRHA is reshaping the city’s housing landscape to meet the needs of its diverse population.
“Typically, renting involves just two parties—the landlord and the tenant,” explained Nathan Simms, NRHA’s Executive Director. “In our space, we add a third critical component: the Redevelopment Housing Authority.”
Bridging Gaps, Building Homes
Acknowledging the growing demand for housing, the NRHA is stepping up its efforts to bridge gaps and create lasting solutions. “We receive calls daily from people desperate for housing,” said Pamela Jones-Watford, Chief of Tenant Rental Assistance Programs. “The need is immense, and we’re working to address it head-on.”
The organization has adopted a hands-on approach to ensure accountability and support for both landlords and tenants. “Documenting violations and resolution attempts is vital,” Simms emphasized. “If these efforts fail, we encourage reaching out to us immediately. Our role is to intervene and assist.”
