Dead dog found in trash bag near Lincoln pond

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a dead dog was found near a Lincoln pond over the weekend, according to police.

Officers were called to Barney’s Pond off of Smithfield Avenue Saturday after someone reported finding a dead dog in the parking lot.

Police said the dog, which was wrapped in a garbage bag, had “visible signs of trauma and appeared to be severely emaciated.”

Investigators believe the dog’s body was left in the parking lot sometime between Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Detectives have identified a vehicle of interest, described as a white Toyota RAV4, and are actively searching for it, according to police.
