Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — The jury for Kouri Richins will be selected only from one county instead of two, according to a recent ruling from the court.
Richins — the Utah woman accused of killing her husband and later writing a children’s book on grief — is facing charges of aggravated murder and attempted criminal homicide in the case.

In October, Richins’ attorneys filed a motion to expand where potential jurors could be picked from, seeking to select people from both Salt Lake and Summit counties. While the court originally granted that motion, the presiding judge of the district, Laura S. Scott, denied the request in November.
Scott denied the request because the defense did not effectively highlight “extraordinary circumstances” to hold in-person jury selection, and having jurors travel from Salt Lake to Summit County would cause a “significant and unwarranted burden” for the potential jurors.
