While Charlotte County Sheriff Sgt. Elio Diaz is being laid to rest Friday, others are doing their part to honor his sacrifice.
Many want to know what they can do or how to help support the family of the slain officer and law enforcement.
Some business owners, including Pioneer Cuts barber shop and Charlie Foxtrot Brewing, both in Port Charlotte, planned fundraisers to help the Diaz family. He and his wife have four children.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office stated people can show the family respect along the procession route. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Babcock Ranch Field House, 43281 Cypress Parkway.
Law enforcement honors will follow the service, with the procession to Diaz’s final resting place at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Burial will be private to the family, CCSO members and dignitaries, officials stated.
“We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from the community and our fellow law enforcement agencies, locally and beyond,” CCSO Public Information Officer Christopher Hall wrote in a news release.
