Boil advisory issued for limited parts of New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — A boil water advisory was issued for limited parts of New Orleans East on Wednesday, Dec. 18, following water main brake at Haney Drive and Hayne Boulevard.

As a result of the main brake, water pressures fell below 20 PSI, and have since been restored.

Officials with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans say that, because of the dip in water pressure, a precautionary boil advisory was issued for the following areas:

  • Morrison Road from Poitevent Avenue to Paris Road.
  • Paris Road from Morrison Road to Hayne Boulevard.
  • Hayne Boulevard from Paris Road to 9600 Hayne Blvd.
  • Poitevent Avenue from Irby Street to Morrison Road.

Officials recommend that residents keep water at a rolling boil for a full minute before taking part in any activities that could lead to consumption, such as drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice.

Residents should also apply sanitizer to their hands if washing them from the tap, although bottled or boiled water is the safest option.
