A former Poudre High School wrestling state champion is already starring at the next level.
Banks Norby, a Colorado state champion for the Impalas, is the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 165-pound weight class in December’s National Junior College Athletic Association rankings .
Norby is off to an impressive start in his collegiate career at Western Wyoming.
The freshman is 16-5 with four wins via pin, four major decisions and two technical falls, finishing in the top-five in all three tournaments he’s competed in to date.
Norby’s fast start has also helped Western Wyoming earn the top spot in the NJCAA team poll. Nine Mustangs are ranked, though Norby is tied for a team-best with Montrose native Dmarian Lopez as the lone No. 1s.
The wrestler was a three-time regional champion at Poudre, culminating with a special 2023-24 senior season. Norby won the Colorado 5A state championship at 157 in February , capping a 43-3 final season with 26 wins by fall and the Impalas’ first individual state title since 2018.
