Two South MS restaurants fail health inspections, one for rodents, insects or animals

More restaurants in South Mississippi failed their inspection this year than in 2023, according to the Mississippi Health Department.

That could be in part because more restaurants were inspected this year.

Records show that 122 restaurants scored a C for critical violations so far this year, compared to 111 at this time in 2023, an increase of 12.

A total of 4,694 inspections were reported this year compared to 4,611 last year, an increase of 83.

Two restaurants were added to the failed list since Dec. 3:

Boho Biloxi Social House Wine & Cheese was inspected Dec. 13 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

▪ Insects, rodents or animals present

▪ Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices.

This is the second C this year, with the prior one in January.

Newk’s Express Cafe , 10381 Old Highway 49, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection Dec. 9. It was cited for:

▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat violation

Corrected during the inspection were:

▪ Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use
