Incoming border chief Tom Homan has announced plans to begin mass deportations of illegal immigrants immediately upon taking office.
Homan, appointed by President-elect Trump, stated that ICE officers nationwide will begin deportations “day one.” He emphasized that public safety threats from illegal immigration necessitate swift action.
Homan criticized President Biden’s border policies, citing a decrease in criminal alien deportations and an influx of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.
According to a Congressional Budget Office report, the Biden administration has overseen the highest immigration rate in U.S. history, with 60% of that being illegal immigration. Biden’s immigration policies, including loosened asylum rules, are seen as contributing factors.
Currently, over 7 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. are awaiting or undergoing removal proceedings, including over 400,000 convicted criminals.
Homan has openly discussed his deportation strategy, including the possibility of deporting families together. He has also publicly challenged Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s opposition to border policies, stating that he would be willing to arrest him.
