Swedish police will observe Chinese authorities investigating a Chinese ship in the Baltic Sea. The ship, the Yi Peng 3, was in the area where two undersea data cables were damaged last month.
Sweden requested China’s cooperation in explaining the cable rupture, which occurred in Swedish waters. Swedish, Finnish, and Lithuanian authorities are investigating the incident, while Germany suspects sabotage.
The Chinese authorities invited Swedish police to observe their investigations on board the ship. Swedish police clarified that they are not participating in the investigation but are present as observers. Sweden’s Accident Investigation Authority is also involved.
Danish authorities are assisting in the visit.
