If all goes to plan, traffic should flow a little smoother on West 8th Street in Millcreek.
The traffic signal at West Erie Plaza has been removed by the township.
A township supervisor explained that the city has received several complaints over the last couple of years about the traffic light.
The antiquated light once was essential as the West Erie Plaza served as a main thoroughfare.
Stoplight on West 8th Street at West Erie Plaza intersection to be removed
A newer traffic signal installed at the intersection with Pittsburgh Avenue could not communicate with the old plaza signal, which created frequent traffic backups.
A traffic study showed that the signal at the plaza no longer had a high enough traffic volume, and the supervisors decided to remove it.
“We’re still going to keep the, you know, the right turn and the left turn only. And with the removal of the pole and the cabinet, that will improve the sight distance for the right turn out of here,” said Jim Bock, Millcreek Township supervisor.
