The University of Akron is ranked among the top 10 best value colleges in Ohio, according to a new study by SmartAssets.
The 10th edition of the study compares schools on factors including scholarships, living costs, tuition, graduates’ starting salary and retention rate. Living costs included room and board, books, supplies, transportation and other personal expenses, according to the report.
Starting salary showed the potential financial earnings of new graduates after they leave school and enter the workforce, while student retention rate shows the percentage of students that choose to re-enroll at the school from a year-to-year basis. More weight was given to starting salary, tuition and living costs when coming up with the “Best Value Colleges” index, the study noted.
Schools were ranked based on their index score with the top school earning a score of 100 while the other schools’ index values represented how closely they compared to the top institution, the study stated.
