Fuquay-Varina Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Meth Trafficking

Michael Lynn Russell, a 62-year-old resident of Fuquay-Varina, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being arrested twice for trafficking methamphetamine, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of North Carolina announced today.

According to court documents, officers with the Fuquay-Varina Police Department received information in August and September 2022 from a confidential source that Russell was supplying drugs being sold at the Marquee Station Apartments in Fuquay-Varina, the department said.

Law enforcement conducted surveillance on Russell between September 2022 and December 2022, the department stated.

On Dec. 2, 2022, officers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Fuquay-Varina Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted a traffic stop on Russell’s vehicle after he left a hotel, the office said.

A K-9 officer conducted an open-air sniff search of the car, resulting in a positive alert for controlled substances, the department confirmed.
