One year after opening, Larimer County’s Acute Care Center at Longview is preparing to expand services to teens and increase transparency.
An amended agreement between Larimer County and SummitStone Health Partners was approved by Larimer County commissioners on Tuesday.
The Longview behavioral health care facility, funded by a quarter-cent county sales tax and operated by SummitStone, has been open since early December 2023.
The new agreement is informed by the lessons learned during that year, said Amy Martonis, the county’s behavioral health services director.
Demand for the facility met its capacity within 36 hours of opening in December 2023 , when there were 16 beds available. Today, 32 beds are available, and they continue to be full, said Dr. Lesley Brooks, executive director of Longview services and chief medical officer for SummitStone.
In 2024, the facility expected about 5,000 acute care visits but instead saw more than 6,000. The facility admitted around 2,500 people, and in the final months of 2024, staff have been recording 500 visits a month.
