West Palm Beach woman dies when pickup driven by 15-year-old hits her car near Bear Lakes

WEST PALM BEACH — A 68-year-old West Palm Beach woman died Wednesday morning after a pickup driven by a 15-year-old boy struck her car near Bear Lakes Country Club, police said.

Maureen Andrea Wheeler died at the scene of the crash, where Village Boulevard meets Shenandoah Drive. She was eastbound on Shenandoah in a 2008 Lexus LS460 when she turned left onto Village just before noon and into the path of a southbound 2015 Ford F-150 truck.

The 15-year-old, a West Palm Beach resident, drove the pickup alone, police said.

The force of the crash caused the Lexus to spin counter-clockwise. It came to a final stop facing north in the southbound lane. The pickup stopped in the grass and sidewalk off to the side of the road, facing south.

Investigators did not say in their report how fast either vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash, but added that speed appeared to have played a role and that “criminal charges are possible” once police complete their investigation.
