Suspect arrested in shooting death of 40-year-old Fort Worth man found in car

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 40-year-old man in north Fort Worth on Dec. 1.

Derrick Sanders, 19, faces a murder charge, according to jail records. He was booked into the Fort Worth City Jail on Friday, Dec. 20.

Officers responded to the Garden Gate Apartments at 6901 Beach St. around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 1. They found Christopher Dwight Sanders inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

According to court and medical examiner records, the victim and the suspect had the same home address, but police have not said how they were related.

Christopher Sanders’ cause and manner of death are still pending on the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website.

The preliminary investigation showed the victim and at least one other person were in the car when the shooting took place in the 5700 block of Mark IV Parkway, police have said. The vehicle stopped in the apartment complex parking lot, which was about three miles away from the shooting scene, police said.
