CONCORD, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — One community is creating more room at the Church of God Children’s Home, an orphanage in Concord, to help children, some who are victims of Hurricane Helene.
On Friday, they set into motion a plan that was one month in the making that began with a phone call and a prayer.
It might seem like any other home just days before Christmas, but this one has dozens of people who don’t know the children.
“Our community has adopted us and really helped take care of us,” said Ella Pepper, community liaison at the Church of God Children’s Home.
The volunteers don’t need to see the kids’ faces.
“Kids are going to be feeling special for the first time in their lives,” said Pepper.

Volunteers understand the children of the orphanage need help.
“I know how I would feel if my children were put in the situation that these children are in, and it would crush me,” said Corey Sloop, CFO of Cabarrus Brewing.
