RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — According to AAA, 119 million people will travel more than 50 miles from their homes for the holidays between Saturday and New Year’s Day.
Of those people, more than 100 million of them will be travelling by car.
“Heading back to spend time in Charleston, I actually have my kids coming in from out of state,” Chuck Acquisto said.
Acquisto said he hoped he could beat the holiday traffic by starting his journey Friday before rush hour.
“Usually once you get to [Interstate] 95, it’s pretty smooth sailing from there,” Acquisto said.
As for the price of gas, the national average cost per gallon is $3.05, but in North Carolina it’s a bit lower at $2.83.
