MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — If you are considering purchasing a pet for the holidays, there are a few things you should keep mind before you do so.

Tales are wagging at the City of Mobile Animal Shelter as adoptions are on the rise for the holidays.

Robert Bryant, director of Animal Services, told News 5 that pets returning after Christmas was once common. Shelter officials said that seems to have changed.

“In the recent years the problem has really diminished,” said Bryant. “We don’t really see that as often as we used to.”

But adopting a pet can be a big responsibility.

Bryant said to make sure you include your family members in on the decision.

“You don’t want to adopt a 40-pound dog and take it home and your significant other or your brother, sister, mom says no. Get rid of it, take it back. And we don’t want that either. We don’t want the dog to go out for a day and then have to come back to the shelter,” said Bryant.

The animal shelter’s goal is to get as many pets into good homes as possible.
