Journey’s end: Bake shop nears goal of expansion plan

Madeline’s Patisserie is known for its specialty croissants that serve the Sylvania area and beyond.

Before it was a successful bakery, the shop was home to the French restaurant, Element 112. The patisserie is run by the same owners, Greg Geswein, Michele Nixon and her son, Chef Chris, with the shop named after his wife, Madeline.

To accommodate the business’ growing success, the team is moving to a new location in the area, 4827 Holland-Sylvania Rd., and plans to open in just a few weeks in late January.

“We’re currently operating out of our former restaurant facility,” said Allison Carpenter, the business development director for Madeline’s Patisserie. “We needed a new space that was more efficient, being able to streamline all of our processes, and do it in a facility that lays it out the right way. It will be larger for us as well. It’s 4,800 square feet.”

Once the bakery opens, its former location in Sylvania at 5735 Main St. will finally close.

The new space will have some indoor seating, but will be mostly grab-and-go, she added. The bakery will offer the same products — like its French butter croissant and chocolate raspberry croissant —- along with some drink options, like coffee.
