PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — As incidents of alleged financial corruption in South Dakota state government have surfaced in recent months, steps to respond to them are now increasing, too.
At a meeting of the state Board of Internal Control on Friday, the state’s internal control officer, Allysen Kerr, introduced the state’s first-ever deputy internal control officer, Karlee Rinehart .

Rinehart recently joined the state Bureau of Finance and Management in the new position. She previously worked in the financial division for the state Board of Regents central office for two years and had been with the state Department of Legislative Audit for 10 years before that.
Her former supervisor, Regents vice president of finance and administration Heather Forney, serves on the state Board of Internal Control. “Karlee’s a great get for BFM and the internal control office,” Forney said.
BFM Commissioner Jim Terwilliger chairs the Board of Internal Control. He said Friday that Gov. Kristi Noem has requested two additional internal-control positions and $221,000 of spending authority for them.
