ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque teenager who shot a security guard at Coronado Center over the summer was sentenced Friday afternoon. Nathaniel Martinez, 17, took a plea deal back in October admitting to his crime.

In July, a security guard caught Martinez sleeping in the Fuddruckers inside the mall and asked him to leave. That’s when witnesses say a fight broke out and Martinez shot the guard. He was taken into custody after a short chase with police.

The judge sentenced Martinez to one year in the custody of the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department to give Martinez the chance to get treatment for his issues that led to this incident.
