BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Saturday! The winter solstice occurred early this morning at 3:21 AM CST! We will experience the least amount of daylight today, but it’ll slowly increase as we approach summer! Sunrise occurs at 6:48 a.m. CST and sunset is at 4:43 p.m. CST. We are starting out the morning with cold temperatures. Most of us are starting out in the low to mid 30s. When you factor in northerly winds at 5-10 mph, it feels like it is in the mid to upper 20s. I highly recommend a sweater and a warm coat if you plan to be outside today. We have some low-lying clouds this morning, but I think we will end up mostly sunny this afternoon with highs in the mid 40s. It will remain breezy today with northerly winds at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. If you have any evening plans, we should remain dry and chilly with temperatures cooling into the mid 30s at 7 p.m. CST. Freezing temperatures are likely tonight as lows drop into the mid to upper 20s.
