Chicago police boost security at Christkindlmarket following deadly attack

CHICAGO — Chicago police have increased security measures around Christkindlmarket in the city’s Loop following a deadly attack at a German Christmas market.

CPD said officials continue to monitor the incident after a car plowed into the crowded German Christmas market on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring at least 60 others.

The two people confirmed to have died were an adult and a toddler. Among those injured, 15 people suffered serious injuries.

A notice of CPD’s special attention on the city’s Christkindlmarket comes hours after what authorities called a suspected attack after a car barreled into the market.

Law enforcement personnel in Germany identified the lone suspect as Tamara Zieschang, 50. The motive is not yet clear.
